Surviving Winter: Healthy Habits to Actually Thrive
Ahhh, winter… yes, it comes with Christmas spirit, twinkly lights, and all the cozy vibes. But it also brings short days, long nights, and that relentless Vancouver rain. Not exactly a mood booster, right? The winter blues creep in for the best of us, and trust us, we feel it too.
That’s why this year, we at March Media made a little pact: to keep each other accountable with healthy habits that actually help us thrive through the winter. And honestly, they’ve been making such a difference that we wanted to pass them along, too.
1. Move Your Body (Even When It’s Wet Outside)
Yes, we get it. Staying inside where it’s warm and cozy sounds way better than braving the dark, rainy streets. But fresh air + movement = magic. Endorphins are real, friends.
Even if it’s just stepping outside to get to Spin or the gym, the simple act of showing up sets you up for success. And if going outside feels impossible, an indoor circuit totally counts. Motivation hack: booking a class helps, there’s built-in accountability, and let’s be honest, the workouts are usually killer.
That feeling after a good sweat? Going home, showering, getting cozy… the rest of the day just hits different knowing you took care of yourself.
2. Prioritize Sleep
Winter naturally invites a slower pace, so lean into it. Keep a consistent sleep schedule, enjoy those weekend sleep-ins, or sneak in an afternoon nap when you can. Your body, and your brain, will thank you. Trust us, it’s one of the simplest ways to feel a little brighter on those gray days.
3. Support Your Body with Simple Nutrition
Short days can leave you feeling low on energy, and your immunity can take a hit too. Simple habits can make a real difference: a daily multivitamin, plenty of water, and seasonal veggies.
If you want a little extra hydration, try adding supplements or electrolytes to your water (plus they make it a fun little drink). Not your thing? A warm cup of herbal tea in your favourite corner, and giving yourself a moment to reset.
4. Create Cozy Spaces
Winter is the perfect excuse to make your home feel extra inviting. Light a candle, fluff your blankets, or create a little corner in your home that sparks joy. Small rituals, journaling, reading by the window, or curling up with a blanket, can help you feel grounded and recharged.
Spending more time at home? Tackle that tiny project you’ve been putting off. Maybe it’s finally setting up a coffee station, or hanging those pictures that have been waiting in frames for far too long. Even the smallest changes make your space feel more like home, and give you a little boost in the process.
5. Plan Little Joys
One of our favorite ways to stay energized during winter is by planning the little things that genuinely excite us. Maybe it’s a coffee date at that cute spot you’ve been meaning to try, carving out time to bake a new recipe, or penciling in a cozy movie night, or even a puzzle session.
You don’t need a big trip (though having one on the calendar is fun!). It’s all about creating tiny milestones to look forward to, moments that make your days feel lighter, brighter, and just a little more joyful. Suddenly, winter doesn’t feel so long when you have something to get genuinely excited about.
Winter 2025: Let’s Lean Into It ✨
This winter, we’re embracing the slow, cozy things that make the season feel softer, while actually taking care of ourselves. A warm drink, a little extra sleep, a workout that feels good, even that half-finished puzzle you swore you’d get to someday. The tiny joys really do make everything feel lighter.
And at March Media, we’re bringing that same energy into our work: intentional, steady, and rooted in what matters. Nothing forced. Nothing frantic. Just meaningful work, done well.
